Pavel Seviarynets: Lukashenka Fears People Will Present Him Bill Soon
PAVEL SEVIARYNETS

The opportunity window for changes is widening in the country.

The other day, the Belarusian dictator stated that ''political Bacchanalia'' is getting started in the country. ''The next year is a very serious year. The political bacchanalia starts here, which will last for at least a year and a half. Parliamentary elections, presidential elections. They never contributed to stability and peace in our society,'' – Lukashenka said as he made new personnel appointments. One of the leaders of the steering committee for creating the Belarusian Christian Democracy party Pavel Seviarynets commented on the dictator's statement for the website Charter97.org:

- First, the political bacchanalia has been going on in Belarus for the last almost 25 years, since the very start of Lukashenka's reign.

His rule, without any jokes, is a real political Bacchanalia, in the most direct sense ever possible. There are no elections in the country, just falsifications. They grab people and put them to jail only for speaking up their opinion, or holding peaceful actions. All branches of power have been destroyed, apart from the executive one. The executive power, in turn, has been crippled to such an extent that people just hate it. What we see is a true political bacchanalia. The way Lukashenka pronounced these words shows that he is scared. He fears that the Belarusian people, during the campaign of politization called ''elections'', will finally present him their bill. The people will indeed bill the dictator soon. For every ''tightened screw'', for the destroyed opponents, for the tax on ''parasites'', for the Brest battery plant, for the Svetlahorsk bleached pulp factory – for everything. And, certainly, Lukashenka is afraid of all this. He is scared, and his ''gang'' is as scared.

- You said in an interview to Radio Liberty that you are ready to become ''Belarusian Pashinyan''. Will you participate in the political campaign called ''presidential election''?

- It's not exactly what I said. This is rather a journalistic construction. However, in principle, I am ready to play my part as Armenia's current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did.

As for the upcoming political campaign, it is impossible to call it ''elections.'' There are no elections in Belarus, just pure falsification. However, at the time when the authorities hold their electoral show there are several months when the window of opportunities opens. The person who proves a leader at this moment, no matter whether it's a boycott campaign hero, or a single candidate of the opposition forces, or an independent candidate - this person will have good chances to become an open alternative to Lukashenka. And if something happens, something unexpected - such leader will become the new leader of Belarus. The probability of such turn of events does not seem very high today, but the Belarusian people should be ready for it. I know many people in Belarus who would have been better state leaders than Lukashenka. I think we will manage to gather such team in the nearest year or two. The people who are ready and willing to implement changes, we are calling on you to join this campaign.

- Why do you think the window of opportunities for changes is now wider than in the previous years, and during previous campaigns?

-First, because time passes, and time works against Lukashenka and his regime. Lukashenka is getting older, his repressive machine is wearing out. The number of people who see that the population of the neighboring countries, like Poland, Lithuania, Latvia - lives so much better, grows. In the end of it all, the patience of Belarusians, however great and legendary it might be, will expire. Last year's mass actions of protest against the decree on ''parasites'' showed that. That is why I think that the window of opportunities for changes is widening. Probably, some more time is needed to prepare an alternative to Lukashenka.

- What does it mean - to prepare an alternative?

- In the first place, it means to prepare the team. Then - alternative legislative bills. Apart from this, it is necessary to prepare morally. Belarus needs the morality revolution, may be even more than the street one. Belarusians should understand it is impossible to live like in today's Republic of Belarus, by the norms of lies, theft and alcoholism. When Belarusian people have such understanding, changes will come inevitably.

- How soon will the alternative be ready? How much more time do you give to the Lukashenka regime?

- I haven't had such a revelation. I can only say, as soon as we are ready to take over responsibility for Belarus, God will give it to us.

- So, what is your plan? With whom are you going to act together? Whose support do you count on?

- There is an agreement among the candidates of the Right-Centrist coalition. This means choosing a single leader among all those who are ready to participate in the open competition. I believe that in the beginning of the next year we will start a political campaign. Maybe, Lukashenka got scared of it and called it a political ''bacchanalia''. The people will openly tell their opinions. It will not be Yarmoshyna who will count votes, but the people, protesting against falsifications. I hope that, during this campaign, a whole wave of people will emerge in Minsk and the regions, who will be ready not only to support us by taking on to the street actions, but to be proactive. Because, when you wait for a hero to come and do everything, this may take too long. And if you stand beside, shoulder to shoulder, like in Kurapaty, we will be able to defeat them together.
