Andrei Sannikov: Wave Of Liberation From Imperial Influence Goes On
Andrei Sannikov

The victory of the Armenian people proved that nothing happens without struggle, losses, protests and selflessness.

Leader of the European Belarus civil campaign, presidential candidate in Belarus at the election-2010 Andrei Sannikov said this to the website Charter97.org, commenting on the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan after 11 days of peaceful protests:

- For the Armenian people this is a really great victory. The world watched the events in Yerevan with a sinking heart and there was a critical moment when the opposition leaders began to be arrested in the hope that it would stop the protests. But something happened that none of the corrupt Armenian leaders could foresee - a popular uprising that led to a change of power. It is too early to say who will lead the country. One can only wish the Armenians that they are vigilant, because the situation is not easy. The danger of Russia's interference is great, but nevertheless, I sincerely congratulate and rejoice over the Armenians.

- What conclusions for themselves should the Belarusians make?

- Every time an event occurs in the territory of the former Soviet Union, I return to 2010, when we were also close to changing the situation, but this did not happen. Armenia once again stressed that nothing happens without struggle, losses, long-term protests and selflessness of people.

Armenia answered a very important question that the opposition of Belarus is often reproached for and used to support Lukashenka: "If there is a popular unrest, then Moscow will interfere." I want to say that such dependence on Moscow, which the Armenian leadership demonstrated, is hard to imagine.

Nevertheless, people stood up, understood the danger and changed the situation. It is absolutely clear that if there is a will of the people, then it is necessary to listen and fulfill it. This event pleases me. I said that Ukraine began the second wave of the liberation of Eastern Europe from the imperial influence of Russia for the freedom of the peoples of the former USSR and, here, Armenia confirmed that this wave continues.
