Two Former Frontier Guards Convicted For Hazing In Homel

They used physical violence against other soldiers.

On July 20, the Homel district court sentenced conscripts of military unit 1242, accused of hazing. They were sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony, tut.by writes.

The incident occurred in the winter of 2018 in the military unit #1242 at the frontier post, which was based near the agro-town of Novaya Huta near Homel.

According to the state prosecutor’s office, from January to February the defendants Siarhei Huzeyeu and Raman Hladky "used physical violence against other soldiers and in every way degraded their dignity." For example, they forced the privates to do push-ups or squat many times, beat them in the face with a palm, asked meaningless questions to which they had to answer.

According to the materials of the case, during such tests, two servicemen fainted. The defendants admitted their guilt partially. For example, they did not agree with the number and intensity of the blows they caused, and also objected that the hazing lasted for months, as presented by the prosecution, but maximum a week and a half. In addition, they accentuated the court's attention to the fact that the privates followed their orders without compulsion.

"It was voluntary, a joke, army black humor," - they explained.

The investigators did not appreciate such jokes. A criminal case was opened against the former border guards. On July 20, the Homel district court made a sentence against them.

Important to note, a month ago the Savetski district court considered a criminal case of a 19-year-old sergeant from the internal troops. He was sentenced to 2.5 years of restriction of freedom in an open-type colony for non-statutory relations.
