The political prisoner is to be released on September 24.

On October 24, political prisoner Dzmitry Palienka is to be released, Belsat reports.

On September 25, the prisoner was supposed to meet with his father. On September 13, the administration of the colony conducted a check of Palienka’s personal belongings, after which the meeting with his father was canceled, Palienka’s friend Maryna Nasenka reports.

"They seized all the letters, postcards and pens, letters that he wanted to send the other day. The meeting with his father was canceled because these things "did not correspond to the list," – Nasenka writes.

Consequently, the prisoner will not be able to get the care package that his friends and relatives want to pass him along through his father.

"A month to go before the release ...they are trying to put maximum pressure on the prisoner, "as the legislation allows," as long as there is an opportunity," – Nasenka adds.

In October 2016, Palienka was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with suspended execution of sentence for allegedly assaulting a policeman during the Critical Mass cycling event, which was held in Minsk. According to the police, Palienka "got into a fight with the employee and tore his uniform." The activist’s father says that his son stood up for a friend, against whom the policeman was using physical force.

Last year, Palienka was arrested again: the court canceled the suspension and sent Palienka to serve the rest of the term in the Babruisk colony. The international human rights organization Amnesty International recognizes Palienka as a prisoner of conscience.
