Talks With The Authorities Should Be Held On Equal Terms

As soon as we respect ourselves, our enemies will start respecting us.

The answer of the Minsk City Executive Committee (Mingorispolkom) was the most popular topic on bynet yesterday. The issue touched upon installation of the memorial plaque on the house where independence of the Belarusian People's Republic was announced, Basta Telegram channel writes.

City authorities reject this request. "We inform that the Mingorispolkom received a number of complaints from citizens of Belarus and representatives of public organizations who negatively treat the installation of the memorial plaque on Volodarskogo Street, 9", Deputy Chairman of the Mingorispolkom Ihar Yurkevich answered to the Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada).

It's quite logic and predictable. It would be surprising if the answer was different, especially if clever and wise people know the position of the authorities.

It would be nonsense if occupation authorities had adopted the enemy symbol in the center of Minsk. Some people still believe that Freedom Day can become a national holiday under the current regime. They are naive.

The installation of the plaque under the regime of Lukashenka can be compared to the installation of the Stalin monument by German occupants during World War II.

It will be recalled that fairy tales about the memorial plaque, good power and others belong to those who insisted on rejection of political, protest component of Freedom Day celebration, those who are known as "concert opposition".

Their opponents then told it would be impossible, if opposition politicians behaved like naive children. They tried to explain obvious things - talks with the regime should be held at least on equal terms. Do not take formal letters seriously, but to insist on your position.

We do hope that those who tried to persuade us in adequacy of the regime have made proper conclusions. As soon as we respect ourselves, our enemies will start respecting us. First thing to be done is to learn how to ignore these primitive swindles and to correctly evaluate both friends and opponents.
