The politician summed up the results of the Belarusian opposition leaders' speeches in the Seimas of Lithuania.

One of the leaders of the Belarusian opposition, co-chairman of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, Pavel Seviarynets, has told palitviazni.info about the issues addressed in the Seimas of Lithuania, where hearings on Belarus were held.

"Lithuania is one of those rare countries, which can be thanked for its principled position with regard to the Belarusian regime," – the politician said.

The hearings in the Seimas were organized by the Commission on Foreign Affairs. They were attended by representatives of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry, various political parties and public organizations. The Belarusian delegation consisted of Pavel Seviarynets and Mikalai Statkevich.

– The Lithuanian political elite was interested in the Belarusian-Russian relations, the topic of the Belarusian NPP, as well as in the development of relations between the countries after the new president takes up the post in Lithuania, – Pavel Seviarynets says. – We conveyed our vision of the situation in Belarus and tried to dispel the illusions of some Western politicians concerning the Belarusian ruler as a "guarantor of the country's independence," and the one who can allegedly turn to the West.

We were asked different questions: what if Russia annexes Belarus? How do the Belarusians feel about the fact that Lithuania is protesting against the construction of the nuclear power plant?

Pavel Seviarynets notes that the topic of Belarusian political prisoners was raised at the Seimas meeting.

– We reminded the Lithuanian politicians that there are political prisoners, and this topic is not closed in Belarus, – the politician says. – We reminded about the trials against journalists and bloggers, about Kurapaty. Almost all topics were touched upon, including the funeral of Kastus Kalinouski's remains, found in Vilnius.

Pavel Seviarynets says that Lithuania is one of those rare countries, which can be thanked for its principled position with regard to the Belarusian regime.

"Lithuanian politicians are among those few who talk about the problems of the Belarusian authorities at the international level, about the Belarusian nuclear power plant, which is a Russian project, about the danger of dialogue with the regime, which deceives everyone," – the politician adds.
