Minsk Dweller On Situation In Belarus: Rubicon Was Crossed In 2010

Either we wake up and start doing something or we keep dying.

Minsk citizens come to European Belarus' pickets and talk about what bothers them. A young resident of the capital explained why he signed for an opposition activist. Minsk resident's conversation with the activists was released on the Youtube channel of the civil campaign European Belarus.

- I am not satisfied with the situation in our country. The situation is disastrous, it has been deteriorating since the mid-1990s. It has been happening throughout my entire conscious life.

In 2010, Rubicon was crossed. In fact, after that time, we live on the verge of losing our independence, on the verge of losing everything we have. The situation in the country is disastrous. Either we wake up and start doing something, or we continue to die, sleep, do nothing, degrade. Alcoholism, unemployment, a desperate economic situation. The situation is very terrible, both spiritually and materially. Crisis is in all aspects of life. Someone is having a feast during the plague, and the majority of the population is on the verge of survival. I am not satisfied with almost everything.

I am either leaving this place or my life is over. And nothing promising awaits me here. I have no idea what young people should do today, what can they do in Belarus. I just can't imagine what awaits them under such a power, under such conditions.

- What to do to change the situation?

- I believe that water is sharpening the stone. Any, even the smallest actions, especially taken by young people, will make a big difference in society and the country. This is very important because one cannot live in the 21st century and have such an economic situation when we are on the verge of losing our independence, cultural codes, values, foundations, everything. We have no faith, no army, no church, no native language, no education.
