They do not respect knowledge.

If we estimate GDP per capita, Belarus is a country with a poor population. Such a concise answer has been given by the head of the Strategy analytical center Leanid Zaika to Euroradio's question about the welfare of the Belarusians.

- When they say "a country is rich or poor" - it is all theoretically wrong. If you do not want to get education, if you do not want to build a career, you will always be poor. And now there is an interesting thing: Belarusians do not aspire to this (to self-development - note). Belarusians have no desire to be enterprising, successful and so on.

Zaika explains it by "rural lifestyle":

- In Belarus, in the 1970s, half of the population lived in villages, half - in cities. And this village lifestyle is still promoted: the Year of the Small Homeland, for example (in Belarus, the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 were declared the Year of the Small Homeland. - note). The agricultural elite of Belarus - it actually came to power in 1994. This is a collective farm nomenclature of the district level. It does not respect knowledge, it does not contribute to the career dynamics of the population, - Zaika said.
