Belarus Started Repairing "Druzhba"

It is possible that the oil pumping may be stopped.

From January 14 till January 17, repair work will be carried out on the section of the Mazyr - Brest-3 oil pipeline. This has been reported by the state Homeltransnauta Druzhba company, operator of the Belarusian section of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

The company says that in 2019, 1300 km of the Belarusian "pipe" was inspected. The international company Baker Hughes Technologies and Pipeline Service provided a report with recommendations on repairing defects. As a result, the Belarusian operator plans to conduct repairs on a monthly basis.

Thus, from January 14, Homeltransnauta Druzhba started works on two sections of the Mazyr - Brest-3 pipeline, which are characterized by a significant accumulation of homogeneous defects within one section of the pipeline. They are located in the zone with high anthropogenic activity near settlements and water bodies, which carries significant environmental risks associated with the company's activities.

It is planned that the repair at the Mazyr-Brest-3 section will last until January 17, Homeltransnauta Druzhba explains.

The repair work will lead to reducing pressure in the pipeline and partial cessation of oil pumping, which has been reported by the Belarusian operator to the Russian pipeline monopoly, Transneft, tut.by reports.

The repair work began amid the dispute between Minsk and Moscow over the oil price. So far, the raw materials have been supplied to Belarus in a minimal amount. The supplies are made only by Mikhail Gutseriev's company. The large oil companies have refused to deliver without premium. Belarus and Russia have not yet agreed on the size of the tariff for the transit of Russian oil.

Homeltransnauta Druzhba Chief Engineer Andrei Viaryha says that the overhaul of five sections of the Druzhba oil pipeline is already planned and design works are being carried out.

However, official representative of the Russian pipeline monopoly Transneft Igor Demin claims that the defects found on the pipelines in Belarus do not require stopping the pumping. According to him, Transneft is ready to provide its facilities to eliminate them.
