What Could 10K Pre-Denominated Rubles Buy, And What Can 1 Ruble Buy Now?

The purchasing power of the Belarusian ruble over the past 10 years.

Intex-press compared how the purchasing power of the Belarusian ruble has changed over the past 10 years.

Before the denomination of 2016, as you know, one current Belarusian ruble was equal to 10,000 “old” rubles. Meanwhile, ten years ago, judging by the price tags that we managed to find in the archives, it was a pretty impressive amount, which could even buy cigarettes and alcohol.

This is what “fit” in 10,000 rubles in 2011: three bottles of beer, or two bottles of fruit and berry wine, or two to four packs of cigarettes, or two chocolate bars, or three to five servings of ice cream.

Today, one Belarusian ruble will definitely not buy alcohol or cigarettes. For example, the cheapest beer in a store costs 1.19 rubles, and that is for a special offer, and wine prices start at 2 rubles.

The only product that still fits into one Belarusian ruble is ice cream. but not all kinds of it, and not in every store. The journalists were lucky to see the ice cream for 0.99 rubles, but it was at a discount.
