UK GS Specifies How Long It Would Take British Army To Fight With Russia

British MPs are calling for an increase in defence spending.

The UK could have fought with Russia on its own for no more than two months due to a lack of resources and ammunition.

Rob Magowan, the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff of the UK Ministry of Defence, spoke about it, writes Telegraph.

“The amount of money we currently spend on ammunition, which is significant, still doesn't meet the threats we face,” Magowan said.

This information was made after Defence Minister Grant Shapps told British MPs that he could not convince Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt to allocate more funds for defence in the budget.

According to the newspaper, the report of the defence committee of the House of Commons of the British Parliament indicates that the army will not be ready for a long war with the Russian Federation without urgent reforms in the recruitment system and increasing the production of weapons.

Deputies pointed out that the British Armed Forces need more funds, and, according to the former and current heads of the Defence Ministry, the army has been losing its potential since 2010.

Grant Shapps also said that the war in Ukraine showed the importance of drones in modern conflicts, so it is urgent to equip the army with them, sparing no money.

At the same time, he reassured parliamentarians that any conflict with the Russian Federation would be conducted together with NATO allies following Article 5 of the NATO Agreement, and their total resources exceed Russian ones.
