Russia's Only BMP Plant May Go Underwater In Kurgan

How will this affect the combat capabilities of the occupants?

Large-scale flooding continues on the territory of the Russian Federation, which was caused by emergency releases from reservoirs. In particular, this is happening in the regions bordering Kazakhstan, and the city of Kurgan is in great danger due to the overflow of the Tobol River.

Defense Express piece reports on how this will affect the combat capabilities of the occupiers.

Despite that the water has not yet come close to the city, evacuation has already been announced from some of its neighbourhoods. This refers to those that are likely to go under water. This is evidenced by the maps published by the local administration.

There you can see marked places that are in danger. They are marked in yellow and red, because the water level there is expected to be 7.7 metres and 9 metres.

And here the lines on the map show the forecasts depending on the water level from 11 metres to 14 metres.

Flooding in Russia: Threat to Enterprises

The city of Kurgan is home to Russia's only manufacturer of new infantry and paratrooper combat vehicles, Kurganmashzavod. It is there that all BMP-3 and BMD-4, BTR-MD "Rakushka", "Sprut" and other armoured vehicles are produced. The Russians are also modernising at this plant the BMP-2s, on which the Berezhok combat modules are installed.

It can be seen on the forecast map published by the local authorities that the plant is within the flood value of 11-12 metres.

By the way, they do not publicly say in Russia what exactly the water level in Kurgan may be, but only give vague estimates.

It will only be possible to prevent catastrophic consequences if natural circumstances turn out that way, and the peak of the water rise is not expected until April 14.

"Thus there are rather well-founded hopes that it is nature that will strike the Russian arms manufacturer with a blow more powerful than all the sanctions put together. Because if Kurganmashzavod is flooded, it will suspend its work," the report said.
