Tusk: Russia's 'Shadow Fleet' In Baltic Sea Must Be Neutralised

These ships illegally transport Russian oil.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk believes that the Baltic sea "shadow fleet" of Russia, which illegally transports Russian oil, should be neutralised, including by intervening at the level of the European Commission.

Tusk said this during a joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Warsaw on Monday, he was quoted by Ukrinform as saying.

Tusk promised to do "everything possible" to support Frederiksen's efforts and for the European Commission to stop the travelling of ships carrying Russian oil.

"It must be a European decision to stop the operation of this fleet of de facto illegal transportation (of oil. - Ed.), which threatens environmental safety in the Baltic Sea," Tusk emphasised.

He promised that Warsaw would not leave Copenhagen alone with this problem.

The Danish prime minister emphasised that both countries "want to get rid of these Russian ships, and it doesn't matter whether they fly the Russian flag or not".

In her opinion, a good solution would be to prepare recommendations at the level of the European Commission for the EU member states on possible reactions to this fleet. She added that the issue would be discussed further.

Tusk also said that he and the Danish prime minister had talked about creating a joint European system of sky defence in case of war.

He said that Poland together with Denmark plan to help Ukraine actively and do not allow other scenarios than preserving Ukraine as an independent state.
